Unique Primates in Borneo

The Sanctuary

Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary is a reserve, which was build up with so much love to nature by the owner.

The sanctuary is 45 minutes drive from Sandakan airport and 20km west of Sepilok, it is located at the centre of mangrove forest along the coastal land near Kampung Semawang.

This hidden gem is perfect for sitting back and watching the primates without getting in the way of some cameras. You will have the chance at this sanctuary to share in this special world by viewing the groups of Proboscis Monkeys feeding from two different platforms which is a much cooler open lodge.

It offers exhilarating and memorable experience observing the monkeys both family groups leaping from tree to tree and eventually coming down to feed on young leaves and plant. The leaping is a superb, fast and stylish.

Once their appropriate foods are put on the feeding platform, the action really begins! The groups start to gather in nearby trees, the large alpha male leads his group on the feeding platform.

See the mother’s eat while their baby’s cling to them, juveniles play together and see the odd bit of natural territorial behaviors.

Wonderful primates never fail to amaze you during the four feedings in two different platforms.

If you are lucky, you will get to see silver leaf monkeys, hornbills and range of native wildlife to Sabah, Borneo.

The best place in Sabah to observe wild Proboscis Monkeys and unique opportunity to get close to the amazing wildlife of Borneo!
