Meet and greet at airport or hotel. Proceed for 30 minutes drive to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. The Orang Utan sanctuary is set in 4,500 hectares of beautiful virgin rainforest 25 km from Sandakan. Its conservation program was started in 1964 to help and rehabilitate Orang Utans which have been abandoned by their mothers, injured, or formerly in captivity to fend for themselves in the wild.
Visitors will be able to observe orphaned Orang Utan being taught how to climb and upon proceeding on to a platform, visitors will then be able to watch semi-wild Orang Utan come in from the further reaches of the forest for their twice-daily ration of milk and bananas. Visitors are not allowed to touch the animals inside the sanctuary, fearing the spread of diseases.
Depart Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre and continue journey to Labuk Bay Resort. This resort is at the center of the mangrove forest along the coastal land near Kampung Samawang in Labuk bay, it offers another perfect Proboscis monkeys observation spot for any tourist who wants to have a closer look at these very rare monkeys and do not have the time to travel too far away to view them. Hence, this is the only area where one does not have to embark on a river cruise in order to view the Proboscis Monkeys.
Upon arrival, proceed to observation area for viewing of the Proboscis Monkeys up close – a unique feature of the resort. There is only one type of species of the Proboscis Monkeys – Nasalis Larvatus. Its distinctive physical feature from which its name derives from is the long pendulous nose of the matured males.
Lunch served at Labuk Bay Resort. After Lunch, continue journey to Sandakan town. Built in 1987, visit the Pu Jih Sih Chinese temple. This temple is situated on a hilltop, provides visitors a magnificent view of Sandakan bay. After your visit here, city tour continues with a drive through downtown Sandakan streets (local market) heading to Sim Sim water village, a settlement established in 1879 where you can see till today houses built on stilts, still occupied by the local Chinese and Malay community.
Before departing to Sandakan hotel or airport, en route for dinner at local restaurant. After dinner, transfer to hotel or airport for flight departing to Kota Kinabalu.
